Unattainable Dream

Photo by Suzy Hazelwood on Pexels.com

Your words are a beautiful, but unattainable dream

Wisps of promise that forever haunt me

Longing for a future I know I can never have,

I reach my trembling hand towards a weeping sky

Of clouds made from swirling midnight trails

Fleeting moments of lucidity flicker in and out

Within this fever dream, like a lightbulb slowly burns

Into a bottomless void of darkness, light now lost

Only your sweet, misleading words can set me free

Shatter the fragile emotions false love crafted

Release me from the internal prison I’ve become one with

Save me from the gorgeous nightmare you and I created
