How Dreams Die

I remember the days of old,

Days when I dreamed

Of being a beautiful princess,

Imagined riding on unicorns

Through verdant vegetation,

Fantasized of grand adventures

Embarked upon with others

A life lived through fairytales

Now, I just try to survive

From day to day,

Precious dreams kept at bay

This was another poem I wrote for Inktober of 2019, inspired by a thought I’ve had for a long time. I’ve always thought it’s sad how many people end up having to give up on their dreams. Whether it’s because of finances, lack of time, inaccessible education, or something else, many people become adults and realize they can’t pursue a precious dream they have. That’s incredibly heartbreaking to me, although I can recognize where I’ve had to abandon certain dreams and desires as well. And that is why I wrote this poem; for myself and for all the other people who have ever struggled with this. I’m thinking of you as I post this and wishing you the absolute best!

I also want to take this moment to say, even if you have to put a dream on hold, please keep it alive in your heart. Hold onto that dream and remember it, always. You never know when you may come across an opportunity to make it into a reality. Things often seen impossible, but even the seemingly impossible has the potential to become possible. Your dreams could still intertwine with your reality someday. So please, don’t give them up.
