It

Photo by Kaitlyn Jade on Pexels.com

On a night

Swathed in solitary shadows,

It creeps from one brick house

To the next,

Its steps deadly silent

It wriggles in through

Open windows, door gaps,

And all the nooks left unsealed,

The crannies still open

It jumps from one body

To the next,

Giving a try at being human

For a short while, it lives

As many people do

Eating, working,

Tucking the children in,

Falling asleep beside a loving mate

It goes through the same routine,

Watching, learning,

Waiting,

Until the time is right
