Strays

Abused, neglected, forgotten,

Tossed aside by an ignorant society

Shambling along dim lit streets,

Scrounging for spare scraps,

We are strays with no true name

Rarely have our hearts known love,

Not a drop to be found

In the crimson rain that falls

Barely have our minds known solace,

Lost in the harsh wind

Of an unforgiving pitch black night

Every day is a struggle to survive

Strays we may be, but together,

We can band together as a family,

A pack to wander these desolate streets,

To protect one another

Beating hearts conjoined,

We are no longer hopeless strays

I recently finished watching Season 3 of the Bungou Stray Dogs anime, which focuses on three organizations working to maintain balance in Yokohama, Japan. All the main characters are based off of well-known writers, including Osamu Dazai and Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. These characters even have special abilities based off their real life counterparts. It’s a really fun, unique anime, and I’d highly recommend it, especially if you’re interested in the literary world. It also inspired this piece!
