An Evil Within

My Inspiration

I’m a big fan of horror, whether it’s in movies, books, video games, etc. Likewise, The Evil Within is one of my favorite horror video games. I think it does a fantastic job of setting and maintaining a suitable atmosphere. Many of the enemy designs are very cool, too. And most importantly, the game is a whole lot of fun to play.

I knew I wanted to write about this game, eventually. A while back, I finally sat down and wrote a poem inspired by The Evil Within. Most of my inspiration for it came from the game’s antagonist, Ruvik.

An altered mindscape,
Steeped in the blood of the innocent,
Bathed in the sin of the guilty
Pain, suffering, fear,
Inflicted on you,
Then on another
The eternal cycle of
Inescapable mental nightmares
The abominations a broken mind
Can create with mere thought,
The lives a psychopath
Can dissect without the slightest regret
Tearing others apart,
Disemboweling them of dreams,
Slicing away every sliver of hope
Pain, suffering, fear,
Inflicted on you,
Then on another,
Continuing won't change the past
